The Chevalle neighborhood
The Chevalle neighborhood in Chaska and Victoria, Minesota is a one of a kind "conservation development" and an example of how a neighborhood can be great.
Started in 2005 with completion in 2016, the neighborhood was created by combining 11 parcels in 3 municipalities by working with the Cities of Chaska and Victoria, Laketown Township, the Minnesota DNR, the Army Corp. of Engineers, the Metropolitan Council and several associated comittees, districts and councils.
Nearly 200 of the 300 acres has been improved and permanently preserved with conservation easements, trails, parks, ponds and wetlands. Working cooperatively with the surrounding communities, Chevalle is now home to over 300 families, five distinct neighborhoods and its natural amenities are available to the public.
Highlights of the neighborhood include:
- 40 acres of created wetland and 14 created ponds
- 10 miles of walking trails
- 4 parks and multiple observation areas
- 30 acres of wetland buffers and created upland prairie
- The treatment of 95% of previously untreated stormwater into Lake Bavaria
