Where Miracles Happen
Stroke victims recover speech. Autistic children learn to connect with the world. Cerebral palsy patients avoid painful surgery. Miracles, yes. At Reins of Hope we call them horses.
Reins of Hope at Chevalle is a non-profit organization that will provide a permanent home and crucial support for therapeutic riding programs for children and adults living with disabilities, improving their quality of life.
For more information, please call 888-514-HOPE (4673), send an email to info@reinsofhopenetwork.com or visit www.reinsofhopenetwork.com.
A key partner for Reins of Hope at Chevalle is We Can Ride, Inc., a non-profit, volunteer based program that has offered therapeutic horseback riding and carriage driving to children and adults living with disabilities for over 25 years.
We Can Ride is a Premier Accredited Program with the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA.org). Classes are conducted by certified instructors, assisted by trained volunteers and monitored by licensed therapists.
Programs offered include:
- Hippotherapy, which means "therapy with the help of a horse". Clients are assisted by a physical or occupational therapist to meet traditional therapy goals and not necessarily to teach riding skills.
- Early Childhood Classes, which focus on children living with disabilities between the ages of two and five. A therapeutic riding instructor works with small groups to focus on school readiness including physical, cognitive, speech and social goals.
- Therapeutic Riding Classes for children over 5 years of age through adulthood. The instruction focuses on goals to improve quality of life and teaches horseback riding skills as well. Some riders have gone on to compete in the Special Olympics.
- Carriage Driving for those who either cannot safely be on horseback or who would benefit from learning to "drive" a horse.
